As a result of .the: discovery of a few -flakes of , gold during excavation work in Nicholson street, Fitzroy, Melbourne, property-owners have caught the goldfever and claims have been pegged out in the street: opposite the, Exhibition Buildings. ■ The news of the discovery spread widely, and at a' late hour last night crowds were examining the mining pegs by.matchlight. The pegs have been inscribed and leases applied for. A property-owner in the vicinity was offered three times the amount previously offered for his property, but refused to do business.
