Mary Anno "Winsor, alias Burn, a'ias Wynson, an elderly woman with many previous convictions, who pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness for tho fifth, time within sis' months, was convicted and sentenced to two months' imprisonment. REMANDED.
Mary Hargreaves, 38 ycar3 of age, was roinanded to appear on Monday on a charge of h'aviflg committed a'breach of her relcaso ■upon probation. DItUNKENNESS.
Anno - "Wilson .Wright, 4-1 years of age, was convicted and finod 40s, in default seven days' imprisonment, on a chargo of drunkenness.
Thomas Leonard", an old man who appeared' first on Monday morning, pleaded guilty to a charge of having been found drunk while on remand. , Accused was convicted and fined- 2tls, in default 43 hours imprisonment. Percival Nixon Robinson, who had also appeared on Monday, pleaded guilty to a charge of having been found in an intoxicated condition. Accused was convicted and fined. 20s, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. A statutory first offender was convicted and fined 2(Js, in default 24 hours' imprisonment.
IN OTHER PLACES. AUCKLAND SUPREME COURT. (PHZSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, November 11. At tho Supreme Court, Edwarjl Leckev, aged 25 years, wa3 found guilty of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm to Miss Minnie Salek, who was Btabbed in tho back "near Albert Park on the evening of September , 25th. He was also found guilty of indecently assaulting two girls, aged five and six years, and also of common assault on a girl aged twelve. Sentence will be imposed on Monday.
"A VERSATILE FRAUD." (raiss ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, November 11
A married woman, aged thirty-two years, flamod Margaret Durkin, appeared in the Magistrate's Court to-day on thirty-one charges of {also pretences. She is lit present serving three months' imprisonment for a similar offence at Oamafu. , Some of tho offences charged against her to-day were comtfiitted in Auckland, Dunedin, and Wellington, the amount involved altogether being nearly £3OO. The police described her a« a versatile fraud, who displayed considerable ingenuity in carrying out her designs. Accused is a married woman with three children. Counsel pleaded that the woman had a hard time, and her crimes were tho result of poverty. The Magistrate ordered two roars' reformative detention, to be served at the end of the present term.
SHEEPSTEALERS SENTENCED. (PBXSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) DU-VEDIX. November 11. 1 _ In the Supremo Court, .Ronald Elloaxnero Xeill and Herbert Norris Neill were each sentenced to two years' imprisonment with hard labour for tho theft of 303 eheep, valued at -500, from the Government at Teviot. In passing sentence, Mr Justice Sim said that a good deal of undetected eheepatealing wab going on, and exemplary punishment should ba inflicted as a deterrent.
