Lloyd, 18 years, of was charged with having broken and en tared a warehouse of the New Zealand Railways, and stolen therefrom four- cases of whisky valued at £2l, the property of the New Zealand Government. On tho application of, Chief Detective T Gibson, Lloyd -was remanded until Friday; MAINTENANCE. A. D. Hodge applied for remission of arrears due under a maintenance order. The case was adjourned until December "nd George Lindley, who waa £l9 13s in arrears on a maintenance order, was'sentenced to one month's imprisonment./to, be released on payment of the,amount due. He waa ordered' to find security in a sum of .£IOO within 7 days. ..." Charles Joll wag convicted and fined 203 for being in arrears under a maintenance order. ■Frederick Meadows was ordered to pay his itife the sum cf 30s a week as maintenance. Charles waa charged on the information of the Borough Traffic Inspector with a breach of the by-law which limits the rate at which a motor vehicle may be driven through the town to ten miles an hour. Mr Barklie appeared for the prosecution and Mr Farnie for the Attendant. The Bench held that the by-law was unreasonable and dismissed the information. . Similar charges against S. Laurenson, G. McGregor (two informations), John Charles, R. J. Evans, R. L. Cliff, L. C. McLauchlan, N. Sherratt, J. Stickings, Dr. Paterson, Hector McLeod, J. S. Thomas, and M. McColl, were also dismissed. IN OTHER PLACES.

DISHONOURED CHEQUES. (PESSS ASSOCIATION TELEGBAIf.) AUCKLAND, November 4. In the Police Court Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., gave judgment for the defendant, "William R. Robin6on, labourer, in an action by John Bakalich to recover £35 on two cheques dishonoured on presentation. "When the cheques were given to plaintiff he was the proprietor of a gaming saloon, subsequently rai led by the police. Hazards were being p'ayed pud he cashed cheques for the defendant as a customer. Defendant stated in evidence that he lost £lO -to a man named Jackson and £25 to plaintiff. Ho accused Jackson of putting his hand over a pack of cards and passing a card to Bekalieh. He had never promised to meet the cheques. FOUND GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER. (rusa association nuexAx.) AUCKLAND, November i. The trial of Benjamin Harris Shutes, charged with the murder of Reginald Louis' Short on tha night of October 10th, at the Aurora Hotel, was concluded to-day. The jury found Shutes gui'Uy oi manslaughter. Sentence was deferred. The jury added the following rider: "That, in the opinion of this jury, the facility with which drink is obtainable after hour*, is largely responsible for tiho en me under review.'' Mr Justice Herdroan said that this would bo handed to the police.
