Mr Maurice d'Oisly is about to join the professorial staff of th : s eminent contra of music culture. Tho invitation was a very attractive "one, and or Mr d"Oisly will take a limited number of vocal' students only ths position will not interfere with his public career. Tho oppo:n!ment ia interesting, too, for the reason tbut Mr d'Oisly was himself trained at the R.A.M. The Xcw Sea'and friends of Miss .Valerie Corli33 (Wellington) will be interested to learn that she has had ths great honour conferred upon her of being selected as a Preparer for the Matthay School of Music. For-the past ye-ir Misa Corliss has been studying with Mr Tobias Matthay, taking the teachers' course as well as that of executant. This ne.w quaUfieat'on will give her experience in. Londin at . the Matlhay School. When she- w»s in England previously she studied the teaching side of the pianoforte at tho Royal' Academy of Music. As a pianist, Miss Corliss will makß her first appearance in London, at the Wigmore Hall, on October 29th. This- will a joint recital, for Miss Eileen Driscoll (Wellington) will be the vocalist, and a very pleasant N<nv Zealand musical evening is promised. Aladamo Winnie Fraser (Chri-stchurch and Dunedin) is spending ;i .few weeks in London." Sho went to the Continent last December, .visiting Italy, and Southern • France : bcfore going to Austria. In Vienna sho has spent seven moat profitable and interesting* months of vecal study vrith Professor G. Mfimoni, both lieder and grand opera. In sddition, she beard all the best in that wonderful musical centra, where every member of the public live? in an aUnosphsro.of mu6ic and attends the numerous concerls and presentations of grand opera. In October, Madame Fra-ser will return to "Vienna for further .?tudy, and at the end of Koremb-sr she will give two lieder recitals in Budapest, one in Vienna, and ono in Sibb-urg. At the recital which sho . gave in Vienna a few months ago. sho. introduced same Maori by Alfred Hill' and Marcel Doreen, and they had * rapturous reception, being something quite new in Austr.a. Madame Eraser has made arrangements for .her return passage to New Zealand. She. w:U join her steamer at Triers for Port Said, and visit Mr and Mrs E. A Turner at Assiut.' Mr . Turner, it may be recalled, was formerlv in the Bank of INew Zealand, but 13 now manager of the AngioEgvptian at Assiutr From Port Said she v.ili continue her -homeward journey. Miss Vera Mitchell (Cbristchurch) is leaving for New Zealand this week, by the Orcades, on a visit. .. For the past, year ane hai been professor of the cello at the Polytechnic of Mus.c-a position which she great'v enjoys—and now the authorities have, granted her a fears leave. She has lately been on a holiday tour in Ireland. The Polytechnic term. j;a. only ten weeks in duration, so ij"t' t" e staff have many opportunities to luffill engagement* during four months p-' the year. Miss Mitchell has piaved a good aeal in .London and also in Lancashire, where ene has had ei-thusisstic aud.cncts.
