NURSES FOREGATHER.

The sixteenth annual meeting 0 f t j lt> Canterbury bra-nth of the New Zealand Trained Nurses'- Association was held yesterday afternoon in the Nurse*' Club Room,* Royal Exchange Buildings, beginning at 3.30. The room had been j beautifully decorated by the members ' with a profusion of flower*, and there j wns a large number present, though ; many were prevented from attending by the wet weather. Apologies for nonattviubtnce were received from Dr. and I Mrs Crooke, Dr. ami Mrs. Widdowson, i J>r. and Mrs W. Irving, Dr. A. 1 riouar Lindsay, Dr. and Miss Borrie, I LV. and -Mrs Crawshaw, Dr. and Mrs ! Hamilton Gould, Dr. and Mrs Hand- ; Newton, Dr. Pairman. Dr. and Mrs W. : H. Simpson. Dr. and Mrs Whetter, Mrs Moore. Misses R. Walker, McKay, Allen. Ingles, Trumble. Wall, ; Wiggins, Houston. Smith. Sparks, Reveil, Watt, Scager. Hanson, King, Eyes. (Jill. Beech, Cozens. Higgs. McDuvitt. White, Green, and the Matron of tho Karitano Hospital. The minutes ui last meeting were read and con firmed. Miss Hood, president, read the annual report, which showed that a fair amount of work had been transacted during the year. Twenty-two new members had joined the Association, two- had resigned, and j two iiad become life raemlws. Several ] transfers had taken place between the various centres.

A vote of thanks was accorded to tlie following ladies and gentlemen for lectures delivered by them during the year:—Rev. J. Pater son, Dr. Bennett. Dr. Pullon. Miss Muir, Professor Shelley, and. Dr. W. Irving. A similar compliment was paid to Miss Jiuir for of the affairs of the Association during the absence, on holiday, of Miss Hood, to Miss Baglev, the former secretary, to Miss M. Jor.es, who had kindly carried on tho secretarial duties sirioe Miss Bagley's resignation, and to Miss Beck, the treasurer. The branch had been unable to send delegates to the Central Comical meeting held in Auckland early this month, but several remits haxl been forwarded for discussion, amongst them being one referring to the superannuation allowance for'nll trained nurses. The question is to come before Parliament this session.

Miss Bicknell represented tho Canterbury Gontro- at tho conference.

Nine Council and seven general meetings and the snecial meeting; had been held during; the year. The lectures were well attended and much interest was shown by members. Miss Beck, treasurer, read the balance-sheet, which showed: ?, satisfactory credit balance. Miss Hood welcomed hack to Christchurch Dr. Manning, who has recently returned from a trip to England and ma.de feeling reference to the death of Miss Paine, formerly matron of the Wellington Hospital, who died in Wellington .some months ago. No nomination papers had'been sent out this year, but members were privileged to Vend in nominations. As none were received', the former Council remains in office for another, year. The personnel of the Council is as follows: — President. Miss Hood; vice-presidents, Misses Muir and L. Mulcock; treasurer. Miss Beck; .lion, secretary, Miss M. Jones; Council members: Mrs Pairman, Mrs CO. D"avis, Misses E'wart, Walker,. Christmas. Buckley. -B#i£ley, and McKay, Miss Pike and Miss Eyes (the two la.tter representing the midwifery nurses): honorary medical members, Dr. Crooke, Dr. J. Guthrie, Br. Orchard, Dr. Douglas Anderson. After tlis business liad been concluded delicious afternoon tea was seryed, and the .members and guests spent an enjoyable time in conversation and social intercourse, varied by musical selections played on a gramophone kindlv lent by Messrs Robert Francis and Co., High street. Amongst those present were Dr. and Douglas Anderson, Dr. Alice Moreland, Miss M. •Moorhouse, Mrs Pairman, Mrs C. C. Davk, Dr. Manning, Miss Peake, Misses Moore, McCurdy, McHu.gh. Beck, Welsman, Aitke'n, Griffen, Mulcock (2). Buckley, Bogley, M. Jon&s. Pike, Hayward, MclJeod. Muir, Christmas. Forrest, Orr, Tricker, Mrs Cava.na.gh, Mrs Paterson. Mrs Deans, Masses Treeby, Nee, Brake. Stewart, Broome, Pe'bre ; Nixon, and many others. DANCE AT ROLLESTON. The final of the series of dances promoted by the Hall Committee was held on Monday evening in the Eolleston Memorial Hall. The hall was*decorated with evergreens and blue and gold" streamers, and tho floor was in perfect order. The dances have been very popular during the last winter, and it is expected the hall funds will benefit. Mr G. Commons, chairman of the Hall Committee, thanked the people for _ their support during the season. During the evening 'a lucky-spot waltz was won by Miss M. Miller and Mr E. Taylor, both of Templeton. Spirited'music was provided by'Mr H. Terry (Lincoln) and Mr J. Pereival (Christchurch), and extras were played by Mr E. Wall (Springston). Messrs G. Commons and W. Kennedv acted as M.C.'s.
