A moral wave is sweeping over Montreal following the investigations which culminated in last week's quadruple hanging. Civic reformers are seeking the head ~f tho chief of police, Belanger, who spent an uneasy forenoon in the witness stand before Judge CoderrC, who is conducting the enquiry. Belanger admitted borrowing sums ranging from £.IOO to £SOO from relatives of police and detectives whom he promoted. Ho admitted that he wont into sporting resorts for amusement tho same as any other private citizen, but the Court declared that it was impossible to distinguish between the private citizen and the official.
