_-.„..-4 — The price of ibutter has been reduced by a penny farthin a pound in Sydney. The returns of crimes reported to the Melbourne detective office show iast week's number was nearly a record. In all, 122 thefts of property were notified, owners estimating the value at £4300. Property stolen during the week-end was alone valued at £149.
Count Michael Karolyi, formerly Prime Minister of Hungary and provisional President of the Hungarian Republic, who was deprived of his estates by the present Government, has been grunted permission to migrate to Canada. He announced over a year ago thnt he was seeking permission to migrate to Canada or Australia.
The Tangier correspondent of "The Times" reports that certain Moroccan tribes, so far faithful to Spain, are ou the point of joining the rebel cause.— '' Times.''
According to the Poßtniaster-General of Australia a proposal is to be submitted when Parliament meets, embodying a scheme tor an increase in long-dis-tance telegraph rates. It is claimed that the present service is altogether too cheap.
The reduction in postage rates from 2d to Ud which lias been in operation now for 12 months in Australia has, | according to a statement by the Federal Postmaster-General, resulted in a falling off in revenue to the Department of approximately £1,100,000. R« J \ cent awards by the Commonwealth Arbitration Court granting increased wages to employees have increased the Department's wages bill by about £400,000. Under the circumstances, there is little likelihood of a Teturn to penny postages in the near future.
