DRAINAGE LOAN.
XO THE EDITOR OF "THE TRESS." Sir, —I see by "The Press" of Wednesday last that the Drainage Board have at last accepted a ratepayers' franchise in lieu of th© attempted electors' franchise for the proposed loan of £750,000. There is one other point to be considered. 1 understand the capital value of the present area already served by sewere is about £11,000,000, and of the area to be sewered, £3,000,000. If these figures are anywhere near correct the central area ratepayers will certainly require a definite clause inserted in the Bill limiting the rate to be levied on their properties; otherwise they will be paying eleven-four-teenths of the cost ol providing the outer suburbs with sewerage, and receive but a very indirect benefit for so doing. This is too serious a matter to be left to the tender mercies of any local body, and if so left will result in the defeat of the loan proposals.— Yours, etc., _ RATEPAYER.
