Mr F. E. Whitlock, wiio lias been relieving at the Balclutha branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has been appointed manager of the branch at Outram.
Mr W. R. Blow, New Zealand Government Agent in Australia of the Tourist Department, and Mrs Blow, left on Saturday for Akaroa. ■ They leave tomorrow evening for Wellington. To-day is the sixth anniversary of the death oi England's then greatest soldier, Earl Kitchener, who was lost in the Hampshire with of the ship's company off tho nortn coast of Scotland on June sth, 1916. L. H. Tracy, the Wellington champion splinter, and New Zealand University champion (a brother of Mr W. F. Tracy, of Christchurcli), has been asked to represent New Zealand at the Irish Olympic Games to be held in Dublin in August next
It was announced at the patriotic social of the Justices of the Peace Association ou Saturday night by the chairman (Mr H. Holland) that his Honour Mr Justic Adams had consented to become the patron of the Association and had promised to give an address to the members in the near future. Mr L. O. H. Tripp was elected chairman and president at the lirst meeting of Ihe new Council of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society. Mr Tripp has just completed 21 years' membership ol th< society ; he has been chairman for ] 7 years, and president and chairman for live years.
Captain Douglas Macplicrson, who was a "uest of H.M.A.S. Melbourne during her recent visit, is at present m Auckland, and intends to return shortlv to England. "Captain Maepherson is a cousin of Lord Lyell of Kmnorciys and a nephew of the eminent geologist, the late Sir Charles Lyell, Bart. The deputation which is to wait upon tho Prime Minister this morning in connexion with West-land matters is comprised of tho following gentlemen, who arrived in Christchurch from the West Coast on Saturdayßon H L. Michel, M.L.C., Messrs W. Jeffnos (chairman of the Westland County Council) D. J. Evans (clerk), L. H. Sonell (president Westland A and P. Association), and J. J. Mcintosh (chairman of the Westland Progress League). On Saturday night the visitors were entertained at the Savage CluD.
