THE PRIME MINISTER.

VISIT TO CHRISTCHURCH. Mr Massey arrived in Cliristchurch at 1.30 p.m. yesterday by motor car from the south, and after dinner he went to West Eyre ton, where fce unveiled the local war memorial. This morning the Prime Minister wjll receive a deputation from the North Canterbury Hospital Board at 10 o'clock and another at 10.30 from the Canterbury Progress League. This afternoon he will be entertained by the Women's Reform League at the Art Gallery, and in the evening he will be the guest of the Reform Party at dinner. To-morrow morning Mr Massey will be conducted on a visit of inspection to a number of Christchurch industrial establishments by the executive officers of the Canterbury Industrial Association. It was hoped, that he would be able to include a visit to Cheviot and Kaikoura in his itinerary A but as he is due back in Wellington on Wednesday, he is unable to extend his visit to make the journey to the country. Mr Massey has unfortunately contracted a seyere cold as a result of speaking at open-air functions in Southland, where the weather was exceedingly cold. (fbess association telegram.) . OAMARU, June 4. Tlie Prime Minister reached Oamaru yesterday afternoon and in the presence of a very large concourse, unveiled the Oamaru South School memorial gates, erected "in proud and grateful memory of the services and sacrifice of pupils and teachers of Oamaru South School in the Great War —l9ll-1918." The gates are a massive structure of six pillars and double and single iron gates, suitably inscribed on two tablets, with the school monogram in gilt on the gates. Mr Massey was accompanied by the Hon. I). T. Fleming, of the Otago Education Board, and was assisted at the unveiling by the Hon. E. P. Lee. Mr Massey left at 5 p.m. and was motored by the Hon. E. P. Lee to Temuka, where he spent the night, prior to departing for Christchurch.
