KING'S BIRTHDAY
OBSERVANCE IN CHRISTCHURCH. Weather conditions were highly un» favourable on Saturday for the holiday in celebration of the anniversary of the King's Birthday. Rain, in a steady drizzle, was experienced in the morn* ing, and in the afternoon the weather was still unsettled. The principal attraction was the second day of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club's Meeting, and d(-spite the rain this fixture was fairly well'attended. There was a parade of Boy Scouts at Kino; Edward Barracks in the morning, at which thero was a good muster- In the evening the Canterbury Justices of the Peace Association hold a patriotic social in the Jellicoe Hall. The display of flags in honour of the anniversary was not very general, no doubt due to the fact that the holiday was a general one, all businesses being closed.
