SLAUGHTERMEN'S STRIKE.

EFFECT IK THE SOUTH. (SPECIAL TO-"THE PRESS.") DUNEDIN, June 2. The slaughtermen's strike throughout Otago and Southland, with a possible extension to Canterbury, has interrupted an extremely busy tail-end of the freezing season. At Burnside there was a_ further five or six weeks' killing in sight. It is estimated that graziers in Otago have etill some 40,000 to 60,000 sheep and lambs which they desire to put through the freezer this season. It is understood that the wages of slaughtermen are in the vicinity of £2 per cLay,_ and the docking of 5s a week from this appears a trivial matter for the holding-up of a big industry.
