HOSPITAL EXTENSION.
NO LAND FBOM DOMAINS. At yesterday's meeting of the Domains Board, a letter was received from the North Canterbury Hospital Board, which asked that the Board should visit the hospital,' and meet the Hospital Committee, in order to become acquainted with- the necessity of obtaining a part of the ground now used by the Acclimatisation Society. Mr H. J. Beswick said he saw no reason wny any more ground should be taken over by the hospital authorities. It might be very desirable that the hospital should be entirely removed from the present position in the city. In his opinion that should have been done long ago. The ground covered now by the hospital was larger than the land pt any Hospital in London. He moved that the Board decline the request of the Hospital Board that any portion of the park should be appropriated irom the board's control. Mr'H. T. Armstrong said the Board ought not to come to a decision too hurriedly. A day ought to be set aside for a visit lo the' hospital, and action held over until after that date. The chairman (Mr G. Harper) stated some of the doctors advised that the height of the hospital should be raised, as the top floors would then be in a better climate. Mr W. H. Winsor said that a little timft ago the Board was unanimous in opposing the project that more land bhould be taken away from it. The present position of the hospital was no place for a big hospital, and if the authorities wanted to extend anywhere they might do it up in the air, or go elsewhere. The Board should hold fast and not let a foot of land get out of its control. The chairman stated the hospital had about 13 acres of land. : After further discussion, Mr Beswick's motion was carried.
