ROYAL MUSICAL SOCIETY.
A meeting of the executive of the Royal Christchurch Musical Society was held on Wednesday night, when the following were present—Mesda-mes Gowei-Burns, Whitelaw, and freeman Brown, Messrs Owen (chairman), Andrews, Lucas, and Roberta. Mr Sydney Butler, L.R.A.M., was unanimously appointed conductor. Mendelssohn's oratorio "St. Paul" wob selected for the next concert. Votes of thanks were accorded to the local artists for the excellent rendering of their parts in "Faust," to Mr W. Simpson, who conducted the "Bing" in the Barracks la3t Sunday, to the St. Albans Choir, and to Professor "VV. T. Goode for liis address on rnusicf and the artists. The chairman eulogised the excellent work done in connexion with the Barracks concert by Miss Freeman Brown, Messra Andrews, Hutton, Lucas, and Roberts. The Concert Hall proposal was discussed, and the hope was expressed that the Council would expedite the taking of a poll.
