MILITARY SANATORIUM.

TAKEN OVER BY HOSPITAL BOARD. The Cashmere Military Sanatorium for T.B. cases was taken over yesterday from the Defence Department by the North Canterbury Hospital Board. At the meeting of the Board, neld on May 24th, the agreement between the Defence Department and the Board as- to the conditions upon which the Board was to take over control was diacussed and agreed to. Dr. G. J. Blackmore, Medical Director of the Board's tuberculosis institutions, informed a reporter that the military sanatorium is being carried; on in the same as it was under the Defence Depaitment. Colonel Aitken, who becomes Dr. Aitken, remains in charge of the sanatorium and will carry it on on much the same lines as in the past. , With reference to the ihaie staff (other than officers) the agreement provides that if their, services are retained they are to continue to be paid by the Deience Department during the first three months of tlie administration of the sanatorium by the Board, the Board to refund the amount in question to the Department. The agreement 6tates: "*7t is considered that this arrangement will cause less disturbance and will enable the Bdard gradually to replace the male stari, or arrange for members of the existing staff to remain under the Board. It is understood that whenever the services of a male member of the staff are dispensed with, due and adequate notice shall be given of this intention, and it is suggested that one month'a notice shall be sufficient." Vocational training is to be carried on by the Board, and the facilities therefore are to be available not only to military but also to civilian patients if the last-named are admitted. The Director of Tuberculosis Institutions is to have sole control of the patients at the sanatorium.
