♦ ■ — DEFIANT OF CONVENTION. LOS ANGELES, March 13. ' At tho opening of the third trial of llascoe Arbucklo on a charge of murder in connexion with the death of Mia9 Virginia liappe, the District Attorney, Mr Brady, stated that he felt sceptical as to any reform among cinematograph folk. He believed them to be fltill defiant oi the conventions. He had employed trusted men to investigate conditions at Hollywood, and they asserted that the industry stood in the samo place tu the saloon 20 years ago. Cinematograph makers, with the same arrogance and ,tho same contempt lor public opinion, would surely pa»3, just as tho saloon had passed, unless they genuinely reformed ana started dismissing actors who ofiended against propriety.
