"These oases are getting rather common," esid Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., at Wellington, when Otis Mitchell, au American citizen, admitted having failed to register as an alien. Sub-Inspector McNtimara, stated that the defendant had arrived in the Dominion in October last under engagement on the Fuller circuit. Ho had failed to register, and had delivered up hi* passport to tho authorities. "When he had desired the return of his passport to proceed to New South Wales, under his contract, his Tegistration card had been required, and he had admitted not possessing ouc. He had registered in Australia, and his excuse had teen his' impression that •'Australia" embraced the whole of Australasia, including New Zealand. Every man who entered the country was supplied with a registration card by the authorities. "Yos, and they pay no attention to them," snid tho Bench, which inflicted a fine of 40s and coats.
