ART SOCIETY'S EXHIBITION.
During the week there have been exceedingly good attendances of the public recorded at the annual exhibition of the Canterbury Society of Arts in the Art Gallery. So far the attendant*. have shown an average increase of fifty per day as compared with last year's exhibition. Thia improvement is due, partly, to the small change for admission, and partly to the high uniform standard of excellence of the pictures exhibited. Sales have been better than was anticipated and have now reached a total of £350. Amongst the sales this week was that of L. H. Booth's muchiadmired "Trelawney of the Wells," which was purchased by a Timaru resident. Good progress had been made in obtaining subscriptions to purchase this picture for the permanent gallery. The exhibition is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.
