ATLANTIC SALMON.
(special to "the press.") WELLINGTON, March 30. The Chief Inspector of Fisheries has reported to the Minister of Marine (tho Hon. G. J. Anderson) that an Atlantic salmon, weighing 6>}lb, caught in trtie Waiau river, Southland, ban been identified definitely. Some-years ago the Marino Department imported several shipments of Atlantic salmon ova, and the fry were liberated in the Waiau river."'The success of the experiment remained in doubt for a long time, but there is no doubt now that the Atlantic salmon has been acclimatised. The fishery experts anticipate t)!i;n.t before long there will be large numbers of the fish running in the Waiau.
