Miss Barbara Bond (Mt. Hutt) left last evening for Wellington, en route for Auckland, where she will be the guest of Mrs J. Lucas. Mrs M. Bethell is going to Winchester to attend the "Waihi" School sports, which are to be held on Saturday.-

The engagement is announced of Mr Frank S Wilding, son of' Mr F. Wilding. K.C., and Mrs Wilding, of Opawa, Christehurch to Miss Erica Westall, only daughter of the-late Mr J. C. Westall and of Mrs Westall. formerly of Hawke's Bay, and latterly of England.

Major Bond, who has been in town for polo, leaves to-day to join his Excellency Lord Jellicoe on a deer-stalk-ing expedition. Mrs Geo. Gerard, "Snowdon," is staying at "Haeremai," Sumner. Mrs J. H. Davison (St. Leonard's) canie to town yesterday, and is staying at Warner's.

Miss Ella Shields and Company gave a very charming entertainment at the Military Sanatorium last Friday afternoon, which was thoroughly appreciated by the patients and staff. Last winter some Wellington girls started Rugby football. Their original meetings, which were open to the Press, were amusing, and their efforts at "rugger" were nearly as tunny. This year another attempt to play tho game is to be made, and at the first meeting fifteen young women attended. Miss Phyllis Dawson explained that last season they were hampered tor want of grounds. She advocated starting of the game again this season. The girls, she said, must wear jersey* and shorts, and their boots must have D °A h (firl we be allowed to powder ° : You won't need that. Asked if Rugby football was injurious to girls playing it, Miss Dawson said she had been assured by a physical instructor that it was not. Office-bearers were appointed, and it was decided to commence practice at an early date.

There will be a ladies' Soccer practice at English Park to-morrow afternoon.
