A Metropolitan fifteen defeated the New Zealand University Rugby team by. 31 points to 17 in a, keenly-fought contest, which, fluctuated considerably from tb* kick-off .to full, time. Neither side displayed combination, whilst ths Blueks had barfly, shaken off the effects of their sea voyage. The .attar's three-quarters several times gave glimpses of briliiant, nippy passing, buUthey did not receive, sufficient support from the vanguard to ensure success. ~'..; lt „ Baity drew first . blood with a, penalty goal, Nothling responding with a similar score. Three all. A. Jackson put New Zealand again ahead, but Oarr,. the New South Wales champion sprinter, equalised with a brilliant try, which Nothling converted. ' . A try by Lane made the .score. 11—6 m favour of the Metropo.itan team.. The earn© player crossed the line' again, making the tocal team's score 14, to which Graven replifl with u try, Harty converting. The half-time scores wore: Metropolitan 14, New Zealanders 11.Lane was awarded a penalty try in the second half. Elliott, Humphrey*, Carr, and Davia also registered three pointß each. Humphreys converted one ,try. Wiseman scored two tries for the Blacks.
