PRESBYTERIAN SOCIAL SERVICE ASSOCIATION.
The monthly meeting of the Chtistcbiuirch Presbyterian Social Service Association was held on Tuesday. Present —Messrs W. H. Koso, W. Goss, O. Ogitvie, R. Malcolm, P. Graham, P. .Hercus, J. S. Tullooh, T. D. Boag, 0. Frame, and the Rev, H. J. Hufiadine, and Mr Congrev*, CbngiegaDionrtl representatives. In the unavoidable absence of Dr. Erwin, Mr W. HY Rose presided. A motion of sympathy with Dr. Erwin in his sudden illness ami subsequent operation was passed. Thc-Acting-iSuperintendent (Mr D. H. Fawcettj submitted a general report of the Association's work during the past month, which showed steady progress.
Attention was drawn to the Go/nrninent's proposed legislation affecting orphanages, and the work of the Association in general, and it was unanimously decided to enter a' most emphatic protest against such legislation. Strong exception has been taken in Dunedin and elsewhere to this proposed State interference, and. it was agreed to join forces with others concerned to make the proposals of the Government in this connexion impossible. The committee learned with pleasure that tile' Rev. Frank Rule (.Superintendent) bad reached America safely, and that o,n the voyage across he had conducted Divine service with much acceptance.
