RAILWAYMEN.

THE "CASUAL" QUESTION. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.* MARION. April 23. The Marton A.S.R.S. last night resolved: "That this branch wishes to impress upon tho Executive Council the extreme urgency of safeguarding the interests of members of our organisation employed by tho Department, as casual workers. We recognise the necessity ot the Department having permanent members, but also recognise that casuals at present employed should not bo victimised and penalised to make room for immigrants. We contend it is tho boumlen duty of the Government to give preference to New Zeaiandors, and it should not have inaugurated such an extensive immigration policy if it was necessary to displace those at present employed to find labour for expected arrivals." Wo therefore call on the Executive Council to take the necessary steps to prevent the same."
