GOVERNMENT VALUATION OF PROPERTIES.

TO THE EDITOE OF "THE PEESS."

Sir, —Will you kindly afford me space for a few' remarks.«. It is within the. knowledge of every ratepayer that the values of the recent assessments are all towry, and are past understanding. Aa everyone is dissatisfied, I write to ask the Chamber of Commerce if it can see itswayio make representation for a readjustment of all values, so that the individual and the GovernmWt may be saved the tremendous loss of time and money involved in hearing the thousands of applications which I believe are contemplated. I know of one instance where in the Very heart of the city one property ia valued at £SO per foot more than its immediate neighbour, and it is hot nearly so valuable. —Youre, etc., RATEPAYER. Christehurch, April 22nd.
