COST OF CHAFF-CUTTING AND THRESHING.

TO THB IDItOR 6r •'THE FUSS,"

Sir,—Wlieri are tho charges of those two above items going bo come down? Four years ago chair-cutting .was 8s per ton. now it is 14a—a rise or 75 per cent. Threshing wheat and oats a te"» years ago was £l2 10s and £lO 10s, now it is £2§ and £25. How ..can a farmer pay those charges when wool is unsaleable, oats Is 6d per bushel, -and chaff 50s per ton P Tlhere ai e not many lucky farmers that grew wheat last season. I think it is time those two branches of our industry should bring down their prices very considerably, and not wait till they are compelled. They will find labour will be plentiful from this onward, and the little extra cost in coal does not'amount to a great deal.— Yours, etc., * FARMER.
