A QUESTION OF SANITY.

Mrs Farr, who was present, -stated that she was not insane. The object of her incarceration in the asylum was to obtain possession of her money. Dr. Thompson gave evidence that, in his opinion, Mrs Farr was eminently sane; . ~..,, The case . was adjourned till tomorrow.

The following is from the Sydney "Sun" of April Bth. <*. • ' . Following upon an order obtained, ex parte, by Dr. G. S. Thompson, from Mr Justice Street, the Judge in Lunacy, relating to the detention of_MrS Maude Farr, wife of Professor Farr, of Christchurch (N.Z.), in the Gladesville Asylum, several alienists were in attendance in the Lunacy Codrt today, but Mrs Farr was not present. Mr H. H. Mason (instructed by Mr N E. Gregg) appeared for Dr. Thompson, who alleged that. Mrs Farr was of sound mind,- Mr ; F. S« Boyce (in- ; stru'eted by Messrs Metcalfe and Dangar) for Professor »Farr: and Mr Bethune (instructed by Mr J. V. Tillett, tho Orown Solicitor) for D*. McDouall, the superintendent of tho Gladesville Mental Hospital. It was explained to Mr Justice Street that the reason of Mrs s Farr not being in attendance- at Court was that it was considered that the excitement might be injurious to her health. Mr Boyce said that Professor Fanwas anxious that there should be the fullest enquiry into Mrs Farr'a mental condition. , .*,.,, Mr Justice Street directed that Mrs Farr be examined medically at the reception house, Darlinghurst, on >Monday, Wednesday, : and Friday > next week by four, doctors to be nominated by the applicant, one of whom was Dr. Thompson. / . The oral examination of Mrs Farr was fixetl by the judge for April 19th.
