WORKERS' DWELLINGS.
HUXLEY STKBET SETmEMENT. The question of the disposition of the workers* dwellings erected by the City Council in Huxley street as part of a municipal housing scheme came before the Council last night. The Works Committee recommended that the houses be sold on a basis of 7J per cent, interest and sinking fund, covering a period of 25J years, and that a deposit of £SO bo required, purchasers to pay rates, and insurance. . Applications to be invited by advertisement, and if thero was more than one applicant, selection to be made by ballot. The actual cost of the houses could not be ascertained until the work was completed, but they were estimated to average about £ll9O 18s 6d. Taking the cost separately, there were three at £l2ia 6s 3d, two at £1173, and three at £1174 10s lOd.
The report was considered in Committee of the Council, and referred to the Finance Committee for further report.
