MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
Mr and Mrs H. P. Herbert, who are candidates for the City Council and the jtiosnjtal Board respectively, addressed a meeting in the Leydon street Hall, Linwood, last evening. !$r R. M. Spoii'B presided, and several members of the Hospital Board were on the platform. Mrs Herbert spoke in an interesting manner on hospital matters, and various members of the Board testified to the excellent work Mrs Herbert had done as a member of the Board, and in regard to women generally. Mr Herbert outlined his policy as regards the City Council in an interesting and instructive address. On the motion ot Mr R. Carter, seconded by Mr H. Holland, the speakers were accorded a vote of thanks tor their addresses, and tor their work in the interests of the people of Linwood. , \n enthusiastic meeting of supporters of Mr A. Manhire was held on Wednesday night in the Beckenham Hall, when Mr E C. Chegwin was elected to the chair Mr Manhire explained to the meetincr the method, vi/,., proportional representation, of votiug on election dav. and answered a number of questions on the subject, making it clear that the new system was an involved cne, rnd pointed out that it behoved all electors to become acquainted with it before election day if they wished to record their votes intelligently. Mr Manhire briefly outlined his platform, and a hearty vote of confidence was carried A strong committee was then formed, with Mr N. Laver as secretnrv anrl a pnmmittee meeting was arranged for Wednesday next, at 7.80 p.mT at Mr Manhire's residence.
