BRITAIN AND AFGHANISTAN.
♦ NEGOTIATIONS FOE NEW TREATY. (By Oftble—Preu Awociatlon—Copr*W»t.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, April 13. It is learned that a fresh Treaty with Afghanistan is expected to lie signed shortly, but there is anxiety i in responsible quarters owing to the Amir's vacillation. He definitely dropped negotiations lately, but since has solicited an interview witlh the iiead of the British Mission. It is understood that Great Britain is prepared to renew the subsidy, which has been withheld ainco the outbreak of disturbances in 1019, provided the necessary guarantees are forthcoming for uhe preservation of peace on the frontier. It is believed renewal of the Treaty will have a. quietening effect on the restless frontier tribes, and also prevent the Amir seeking financial aid from hut Bolshevik neighbours.
