NORTH CANTERBURY CENTBE. The monthly meeting of the North Canterbury Centre of the Mew Zealand Athietio and Cycling Union was held last .night, Mr W. J. Walter presiding. , In connexion with the big 70-mile NewZealand (Jnampionsaip Road Race, to be held on Saturday weetej it was reported that arrangements had been made for the race to -finiskon Canterbury tart. » Mr A. J. Barrett had offered a prize of one guinea for a race to 'be held at the park while the spectators were waiting for the road race .to finish. It was decided to offer the prize for an "old-timers'" race, of about one mile, for cyclista who had not rat-ed-for-at-least-terr years. s The championship race will start at the Christchurch Hospital, and will go via the main road passing through Lincoln, Springeton, and Leeßton to Southbridge, thence; through to Dunsandel, across to Irwell, and back to Christchurch by the main road, finishing at Canterbury Park. It will start at 11.30 a,m., and is expected to finish about 3,20 p.m. ■ , : . ■ ' Mr 8., J. McKenna's offer to make arrangements for officials at Dunsandel. Southbridge, and Lincoln was accepted. Other officials ■were elected as follows: —Starter, Mr ,W. J. Walter; referee, Mr B. J. McKenna; -time-''. keepers, Messrs- Walter and McKenna; judges, Messrs F. D. Kesteven, G. D: Cameron, A. S. ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP. The Marshland-Mairehau Club will conduct a South Island Championship road race on April SOth. The race will be over a 40-mile course, and will start from the city boundary • at the corner of Hill's and Shirley roads,, • ■thence proceeding' six times round the Shirley, Marshland, Preston's, and Hill's roads, •and finishing at the starting point. • iiig prizes are being offered, and a large, number of entries is assured.
