SUMNER FORENSIC SOCIETY.
., '...♦ .-. ' The annual meeting of tho Sumner Forensic Society was. held in the Council OUambejs last night, when Dr. F. Slater was voted to tho chair. The secretary, Mr H. C. Jones, read the annual report and balancesheet, which showed that the Society had had a very prosperous year, and had a- small credit balance. In moving the adoption of the report, the chairman said that, looking back over tho two sessions of last season, he felt that no year had been more successful. If a. continuation of the progress was to be secured it'would bo incumbent upon each member to introduce' a friend to the Society. He strongly advocated the admission of young members. The> report was adbpted. The election of officers- resulted as follows.:—Secretary and treasurer. Mr H. C. Jonos; committee, Messrs G. F. Allen, J. 1L Thomas, A. J. T. Withers, H. W. Heslop, J. lieay, and the Re-v. W. McAra. It was decided to print the syllabus for the first sassion. The meeting agreed to postpone the first meeting oh account- of tho Mayor's_ address to Iho ratepayers, and open the session on April 26th, when the evening would bo devoted to impromptu speeches. At the conclusion of tbe busiinef* the evening assumed a social character, items beiw* contributed by Messrs J. E. Stevens, T. M. Charters, A: L T. Withers, Foster, and Allen.
