MEN'S LATEST DEMANDS. \ O?BESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON. April 13. A confereCnJce between representatives of the New Zealand Coar Mine Owners' Association and the Miners' federation was held on Friday, for the purpose of discussing the claims presented by the miners for a new agreement. Among the proposals to bo presented are six, which the owners have described, as "revolutionary and far-fetched," and which, if granted, would considerably increase the price of coal, to the general public. These are the abolition of the contract system, six hour's a day bank to bank, a five-day weelc, abolition of tho afternoon shilt, payment for holidays, and payment for time lust (minimum weekly wage). The Federation refused to withdraw these claims. Tho mine owners agreed to a conference, but pointed out that they could not conceive any arguments'that would modify their decision that itwas impossible to agree to tho six demands detailed.
