Im reference t6 the Mount Lyell Miners' suggestion that the wages question be referred to the [ Arbitration .Court, tho management points out that tho Court has laid down as a -fundamental principle that it is better to abandon an enterprise which cannot be continued without reducing tho basic wage. Consequently, the management ■has -aßked the Union to meet it with the object of assisting it to formulate a satisfactory agreement. CARPENTERS AMALGAMATE. SYDTSTFvY, April 12. The carpenters' unions throughout the Commonwealth have effected an amalgamation, with a total membership of 15,000.
