PATEA BY-ELECTION.
POLLING TO-DAY. The polling in tShe Patea by-election takes place to-day; ( The candidates are: Messrs E. Dixon (Reform), W. Morrison (Liberal), and L. Mcllvride (Labour). At the general election in 1919 tho polling resulted: W. D. Ptwdrell (Reform), 3276; W. Morrison (Liberal), 8021; P. B. Fitzherberfc (Labour), 458; G. V. Pearce (Reform),. 144. , At the general election in 1914 the figures were: G. V. Pearce (Reform), 3388; W. Morrison (Liberal), 3270. THE LABOUB CANDIDATE. (PBEBS ABBOOUTIOH- TKLEOBAK.) WESTPORT, April 12. At a meeting to-night oi ttie executive of the Westport Branch of the A.S.R.S., a resolution was passed "expressing indignation at the treatment received by Mr L. Mcllvride in the Department's refusal to grant him leave to contest the Patea seat, and subsequently dismissing him, as beirig contrary to J!i* Massey's promise in Parliament that railwaymen had full Civil and political rights." It was resolved to use every possible means to hjive the embargo immediately removed. The Westport Labour and Mechanics' Union also carried a resolution of protest. ,|"i. ■. ■, .
