MEETING OP COUNCIL, J Tho Council of the Canterbury Automobile, Association met last night, Mr R. .W. I Lochhcad presiding over a good attendance. The' Progress League wrote respecting the i Association's representative on the Council of the. League. Mr F. W. Johnston suggested that tho Association should co-operate.: with the ILeague in the matter of good roads, especi-j ally in connexion with setting up a strong j sub-committee of the< League to take the mat- j tor in hand. He referred to the point that j the efforts of the Association on the subject of good roads required the backing of an j outside body. ' . It was decided to ask the League to meet! the Association's Road Committee to discuss i the setting x\p of a joint committee on good roads. It was decided to reply that the president of the" Association was the Association's representative on the League's Council. The Town Clerk (Mr H. R. Smith) acknowledged receipt of the Association's letter' suggesting that a representative of the City Council should inspect the traffic islands provided in Hawera, as a, guide,-to the users of the streets. '•.' the chairman said that the Automobile As-! sociatdon was taking no part whatever in the municipal elections;. ,if individual members liked to send their cars it was nothing to do with the Association. •The New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Association wrote thanking the Association in respect 'of action taken which had resulted in the, fining (£5 and costs), before the Magistrate's Court at Amberley, of a hotelkeeper who had declined to give accommodation to a traveller. It was decided to write to the Minister of Railways, and to the resident Railway Engineer, on the question of having two turn-outs made at the Hokitika railway bridge.
