The date of the annual meeting was fixed for May 27th. , ~ The Finance Committee was authorised to draw up a circular in reterenca to outstanding subscriptions . The matter of installing electric light and a telpphono at the show grounds was left to the incoming committee. It was decided that an endeavour should lie made to obtain a fresh lease of Hhe Association's old room in i'er.cival street for twelve months, as at the end of that time the Association would be in a better position to go on with its building scheme. Jottings for Farmers. In the report last Saturday of tho Hawarden Show it was stated that Mr M O'Brien's horse was champion hack. This horse was adjudged ihe •winner el the class for the ; 'best hack on the ground," the prize being a. special .riven by Miss 1. Rutherford, which prevented the donor competing in *iw event. T.'ie championship in both haeknev and harness, sections was won by Mfss Rutherford's well-known Blackthorne. A most remarkable finish was recorded at the egg-laying competition whiea concluded at Mount Albert, Auckland, recently, there being only one egg difference, between tho winnows of the hcavv breed section and the winners of uho fight breeds. The first prizo in the heavy breeds will go to Master Ellis Shnackenberg's team of six Silver Wyanddttes, which lkhl 1345 eggs during the period of' 50 Weeks, whilo Mr J. N. McLean wins first prize in the light breeds with 1344. eggs laid by his team of six Whito Leghorns. OfUhe four competitions that have been held in Auckland during the past four years this is the third time that the winners ot the iheavy breed section havo put up a higher total than'the winners of the. light breed section, and the second timfe that Silver Wyandottes nave won first prize in the heavy breed section. RANGIORA. ' The Jady members of the congregation of the Presbyterian Church held a sale of work and produce in the Drill Hall yesterdav in aid of the new church building fund. Luncheon and afternoon tea were provided. Good business was done, and the fund will benefit to the extent of £9O. ' MAIEEHAU. There was a very large gathering of* residents in the Mairehau Hall to bid farewell to the Rev. D. D. Rodger,, .of the Papanui Presbyterian Church, wno has been in charge of the Mairehau district since churclh. services we're started about nine years ago. Mr J. Speeches were also made by Messrs A. Cuswbrth, J. S. Pate, W.'J. Walter, Crce,' and C. Walter. During the evening a musical programme was given by Mrs Sibbald. Misses Beck; (2), Thompison, BorEfoldt, Messrs Douglas McFad■den, T. Wason, L. H. Wilson, H. W. Perryman, David McFadden, and J. &'.. Pate. Refreshments were handed round. \ BAKAIA. In the Raliaia Town jflall the Rakaia Ladies' Hockey.Club held a dance in. aid of the funds. There'was a good number present, ' and the music supplied by Wells's band . m was much enjoyed. ■ Mr A. A. Oliver acted as M.C. The annual meeting of the South Rakaia .Domain Board was held on! Monday. There were present: The Hon C. A. C. Hardy (chairman), Messrs A. J. Magson, T. Blackley, J. Penny, T. McLean, and G. S. Hardy. The annual statement showed. a bank balance of £297 7s. Tho Hon. C. A. C.. Hardy was re-elected chairman. Word was re-
ceived- from the Under-Secretary of the Department confirming tiie appointment of Mr G. S. Hardy as a member of the Board, and he was elected secretary. It was agreed to apply to the County Council for the usual subsidy. Mr J. Sowden wrote asking for permission to lay down' a turf track for training purposes. It was agreed to grant permission for the work to be done, subject to being completed to the approval of the Board, it was agreed that the caretaker should report to the .chairman anyone using the track without having paid the annual fee. It was decided to ask the -Lands Department to . send along an expert to advise the Board on the planting and care of trees. It was agreed to call for tenders for the sale of the balance of the big trees between the drive and Normanby street, some. 3000 trees in all. The Hon. C. A. C. Hardy, and Messrs A. J. Magson and I. Blackloy were appointed a sub-committee to attend to the removal of some trees near the bowling green. It was agreed tihat the caretaker should arrange for the cutting of tho grass on tho football and hockey grounds. . ASHBURTON. At the annual meeting of the Ashburton County Rugby Union the following officers were elected:—Patron, Hon. W. Nosworthy; president, Mr P. B. Robilliard; vice-presidents, Messrs F. W. Seldon, W. Joyce, D. Friedlander, J. M. Dickie, and W. F. Waters;', delegate to t'he Canterbury Rugby Union, Mr F. D. Kesteven; classification committee, Messrs W. F. Waters, D. Friedlander, and 'F.„ W. Seldon; selectors, Messrs D. Friedlander and E. J. O'Brien: "postponement committee, Messrs Robilliard, Waters, and Seldon. At tho annual conference of the Ashburton District, 1.0.0. F., M.U., held at Ashburton, Bro. John Chambers, D.G.M., presided over a full attendance , of deputies from all lodges in the dis'trict. The Deputy Grand Master of New Zealand (Bro. W. R.
