EX-SERVICE SETTLERS.
—» —« ARRIVALS BY THE SHROPSHIRE. Four hundred and twenty-nine persons from Great Britain landed on the Queen's Wharf, Wellington, on Saturday afternoon from the steamer Shropshire. They have come out under arrangement with the Government to make new homes for themselves in this country. There are 89, saloon and 340 third-class passengers. The third-class passengers consist almost entirely of exnser.vico men, who have come out under the Jjiiperial overseas settlement scheme. The majority are skilled workers. They are, taken altogether, an excellent class of men, having been carefully selected by the New Zealand Government authorities at Home. There are between 80 and 90 skilled farm labourers, and it is anticipated that owing to the present position of affairs agriculturally some difficulty will be experienced by the Immigration Department in placing them at once. It is hoped, however, that satisfactory ar- . rangements in this respect will be made next week.
