t . . . CANTERBURY CENTRE.' ' The Executive Committee-' of the Canterbury and "Westland Centre of the New Zealand branch of the Red Cross Society met yesterday, Mr J. A. Flesher presiding. It wait reported that tlio motor-car of the city branch had been sold for £375. Letters were received expressing thanks for the motor outing provided by tho centre for inmates of the Cashmer Military Sanatorium. , A letter was received from the central office, "Wellington, authorising the centre to invest up to £12,000 on 'mortgaged. - * . , , Mr G. Harper wrote stating that the CD.C. had for the last'-five years a hospital ' committee j which .■'■ had made weekly trips to the military hospital, and supplied the inmates .with books, etc. The members of the committee were willing to continue their honorary labours in this direction, and asked the Society's co-oueration in the matter. A subsidy of "at least £1 a week was It was decided to confer with Mr G. Harper on the question. - ' A letter was received from the same writer asking that the Society should go into the'-question-, of-making improvements in l the bowling green -at the Cashmere Military Sanatorium. The chairman said that the Society had voted £250 towards the laying out of the green, but before it was finished the cost .amounted to £2SO 18s 7d. It had been understood that the Sanatorium authorities would be responsible for its future maintenance.' Mr W. T. Robinson was appointed to inspect the green and report on the. matter to tho committee. The chairman, Mesdames. "Wigram and Boyle, and Mr A. B. G. Rhodes, were appointed to represent the centre at a meeting of the New Zealand Council to lie held next month. • The central office, "Wellington, wrote stating that a Red Cross motor ambulance had- been sent to Christchurch under control of the District Director of Medical Services, until such time as it might be 'required by the Red Cross Society. Tho Public Health Department was very much in med of ambulances, and would ■ probably be plad to receive it on loan or otherwise* should the Society have no immediate need of it. '' > ; ' It was decided to lend the ambulance as indicated, provided it was kept in good order. It was reported that there was a total credit balance of £27,903 15'3.
