FOOTBALL.
OF SEASON TO-DAY. The Rugby Union competitions will be commenced this ' afternoon, when seventyeight teams will take the field to compete in the various grades. Three very interesting senior games will take place at Lancaster Park, namely, .Marists v. Christchurch, Merivale v. Sydenham, and Linwood v, 'Varsity; while at the Show Grounds Old Boye will play Albion. All games will commence a; 3 p.m. ELLESMERE SUB : TOION. " Mr B. T. McMillan (president) presided over the annual meeting of the Ellesmere Rugby Sub-Union, held at Leeston, and there were delegates present from tho Leeston, Southbridge, Dunsandel, Irwell, Waihora, and Lincoln College Clubs. ■ The president presented - a report upon the work of the past season. The balance;: sheet ehow'ed' a credit of £'33 17s.' Officers were elected as follows:—President, Mr R! T. McMillan; vice-president, Mr P.-Delargey; hon. secretary, Mr W. Watson; treasurer, Mr R. T; McMillan; postponement committee. Messrs Delargey, W. A. McMillan, and W. O. Ronnie; suspension committee, president, vice-president, and Messrs E. G. Wright and S. J. WickMuV; trustees, president and secretary; senior selectors, president, ftnd Messrs Delargey and W. 0. Rennie;-auditor, Mr R. M. Robertson; delegate to the C.H.U., the president., An honorarium of £2 2s was voted to tho retiring secretary (Mr F. E. Kesteven), who was thanked for his services. It was decided to start the competitions on April 30th. - The proposed insxvrance scheme for playera was discussed, all the delegates being in favour of some scheme being adopted. It was decided to hold the matter over, until next meeting. On the motion of Mr F-. Miller (Waihora), it was decided to start all matches at 2.45, except the games between College and Southbridge at Southbridge, and College and Leeston at Leeston, when play would begin at 2.15 eo that the College team could travel by tram. Permission was granted Waihora Club to change its. colours to black with white hoop.
A recommendation from Dunsandel Club that the eeven-a-eide tournament be played on the ground,of a. different -club each seaeon was discussed. The matter was noted for further consideration later on. ' A further recommendation fronr Dunsandel that finalß in the seven-a-side be continued! until one side scored, instead of counting a, force-down after the time .limit was exceeded, was agreed to. * It was decided to have copies of the SubTTnion's rule 3 printed for distribution, and to obtain- 100 copies of the rules of the game from the O.E.TJ. The draw for the senior competition, was made ,out -. aa fellows : April 80th—Waihora. v. Leeston, at Leeston; Southbridge v. Irwell, at Irwell; Col-; lege v. Dunsandel, at College. May 7th—Waihora v. College, at Waihora; Southbridge v. lieeston, at Southbridge; Irwell v. Dunsandel, at Dunsandel.' May 14th—Southbridge v. College, at College; Waihora v. ' Dunsandel, at Waihora; Leeston v.. Irwell, at Leeston. - May 21st—Irwell v. Waihora, at Irwell; Leeston y. College, at College; Southbridge v. Dunsandel, at Sothbridge. May 28th—College v. Irwell, at Irwell;' Dunsandel v. Leeston, a.t Dunsandel; South- ' bridge v. Waihora, at Waihora. It was left to the president, vice-president, and secretary to prepare the draw for the junior competition, entries for which close ou Apxil-aist. ■■•■ A meeting of referees,was held to discuss .the formation of a • referees' 'association, Mr JP Lill presiding., After some discussion, it was decided to hold a further meeting withia a iortnight, and to endeavour to get- a fuller, attendance.
