MEETINGS AND SOCIALS.
SYDENHAM SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Sydenham School Committee was held on Wednesday evening, there being - present—Messrs E. L. McKeon (chairman). P. A. Frayle, R. J. Duncan, Q. P. Taylor C. H. B. Poore, T. 'H Butterfield, W. H. Luxton, H. H. McOaw, and A, C. Fricker. The headmaster reported that the overage attendance for the past four weeks was:—Boys 461, and girls 463, out of a roll of 511 and 483 respectively. A balancesheet in connexion' with the recent picnic was submitted, showing a credit balance of £9 7s 3d, which, was considered very eatisfactorv. With reference to the efcafi, it was reported that Misa Bobson had commenced duty in place of Miss Lloyd. ! Misses Olga Steinmetz and Viola Clare had been appointed pupil-teachers, and Misses Ivy Hassall and Margaret Bell probationers. The chairman read a draft copy of the annual report, which was approved.- This being the last meeting of the present committee, a motion was recorded in appreciation of the-capable manner in which the chairman had earned out his duties during the past year. The chairman thanked the committee, and eulogised the work of the committee as a whole. SUMNEB SCH6OL COMMITTEE. The' regular meeting of the Sumner School Committee waa held last night. Present—Mr D Lumsden (chairman), Mesdames Fountain Barber and W. <?. Roberts, and Messrs C. Benjamin, J. Browne, J. H. Thomas, G. A: Alexander, and the Rev. E. C. W. Powell. The grounds committee reported that work was proceeding satisfactorily, and that a little more levelling would see the bulk of the improvements finished. The annual report waa submitted by the secretary and approved. The chairrqan reported that arrangements for receiving the Minister of Education were well in hand. The offer of thn Borough Council to give a gun captured during the war was- accepted. The headmaster reported that the roll was 190 boys and 180 girls, total 370. The average {or the past quarter woff 328. Eighty children had ibeeria admitted since the beginning of the' year. MSss Belshaw and Miss Cotter hadbeen appointed pupil-teachers by the Board of Education. LINWOOD SCHOOL COMMITTEE. At the monthly meeting <yi the Linwoodi School Committee there'were present—Messrs R. Carter (chairman). W. H. Denton, R. H. Wilson, Gr. Phillips, D. F. Conlter, H. Macintosh, H. F. Herbert, and H. J. Bowlker (hon. secretary). The headmaster reported that the roll number was 713, with an avelogo attendsuic& of 649. The partition promised for Standard 111. room was urgently required. The secretary was instructed to again point out to the Board the need for the partition or the extension of Standard 111. room. The chairman, headmaster, and* secretary were appointed to prepare the annual report and balance-sheet to be presented to the annual householders' meeting, which is to be held in the school on the 16th inst. OAK OF SYDENHAM LODGE. At the fortnightly meeting of the tLA.O.D., Oak of Sydenham Lodge, No. 15, A.D. <Bro. H S. Stephens presided. The bard's, report was received, and sick pay totalling £l6 Is 8d • was passed for payment. A motion of sympathy was passed to P.A. Bro. Bearne in th* loss of his brother. Invitations to social functions were received from the Mistletoa Lodge and. the Lily of Richmond Lodge
