CITY COUNCIL.
LAST NIGHT'S MEETING. Tho Chriilchurch City Council met last night. Present—The Mayor (Dr. Thacker, M.P.), and Crs. J. W. Boanland. F. K. Cooke, H. F. Herbert, D. G. Sullivan, M.P., H. Hunter, H. T. Armstrong-, A. McKellar, C. P. J. A. Fiesher, 1\ iJurgoyne, A. Williams, E. Lansriey, J. 0. Jameson, and £. H. Andrews, and tlirce Spreydon representatives Or*. A. Munhire, H. Worra.ll, and K. O'Kourko. The Mayor welcomed the Spreydon councillors, and Cr. Manhire replied. Leave of absence was granted Crs. C. -S. Harper and E. ]•'. Stead. Tno Spreydon Borough Council advised that Messr6 Alfred Manhire, Henry Worrall, r.nd Edward O'Hourke had been appointed councillors of the united borough until the next general election of councillors.
The Works Committee reported that the amalgamation of the borough of Spreydon with tho city took place on the let instant, and tho committee had arranged for tho present outside staff to continue. An increase in wages was made to those employees -who were receiving less than tho wages paid to employees in tjie city for similar work. There waa an additional 27 miles of streets to maintain, and tho working plant taken over consisted of a steam loiler (Ave ling and Porter), horso grader, two druys, and two horses.
The Finance Committee reported that an application wa« received from tho Lancaster Park Board of Control for the rcmiasionof rates for the past financial yean which amount to £l4B 8b Id. The committeo replied that the present atate of the city finance was such that the Council could not eee its way to forego any of its revenue. The reports were adopted.
