BID FOR A CROWN

SITUATION IN HUNGARY. CONFLICTING REPORTS. (Bj CaM«—Pi««« Association— CopjrlgM.) (Austrian and Ca&le Association.) LONDON, April 3.

Highly contradictory telegrams are coming from Vienna. Some state th-it tiho ex-Emperor Karl has gone, soma that ho ?s going, and somo that he has no intention of going unless the Allies turn him out. The correspondent of- the "Daily Chronicle," who reached Steinamanger on Saturday, says tihere is a camp of out-and-out Karlists there, and the Cabinet at Budapest, he is eoually convinced, are Karlists. •'Karl's closest supporters tell me his Majesty has not. the least intention of leaving Hungary 1 visited the bishop's palace, and saw Karl, who looked grave but happy. His supporters at the palace say they will not leave so long as no Frenchor English troops are sent against Karl, biix, the latter is prepared to stand by the treaty signed at the TrinTion. Karl has 15,000 supporters already at his disposal, and practically the whole Hungarian army is behind him. To Hungarians Karl offers complete cessation of •the White Terror, and piomises the Succession States that ho will not seek any extension of the kingdom, being quite content to reign as a. national Hungarian king." The correspondent says it is evident an impression is being spread .abroad that Karl is being prevented from assuming his rights, in order that no excuse may be given to the Succession States to interfere. When that trouble is averted Karl will be crowned in Budapest.
