The "Sydney Morning .Herald," commenting on the significance of the Labour Conference,, says: "Despite the most careful organisation and a most strenuous contest, the Storey Government has been defeated. The Government is discredited by its own movement, censured by those in whoschands rests its political fate, and is in the position of a naughty child whipped for doing a wrong thing, and threatened with all /sorts of pains and penalties if it continues its objectionable conduct. ' Tho "Herald" describes the Government's position as one of subservience, and . declares that the people have a right to know 1 if the Ministers are prepared to accept such a position.

[An earlier . message stated: —The fight for the presidency of tho Australian Labour Party resulted in the re-election of Mr "W. Lambert, Lord Mayor of Sydney, who defeated MiMitchell, the nominee of tho Catts faction, and, reputedly, of tho Government, by a majority of 46 votes. The struggle" throughout was marked by serious allegations which each faction made against the other. The Lambert Party nominees obtained a majority of the executive appointments in the Australian Labour Party, thus seeming the continuance of the dominance in tho affairs of the party of the ■ Australian Labour unions, to which tlie Catts section is opposed.] _____
