HAIiSWELIi. At the last meeting of the H-alswell County Council thern were present—Messrs Macartney (chairman), Morten, Patterson, liagiesome, Mulcock, and Stewart. It was resolved to.hold a special meeting l on April 26th, to" pafls the motor by-laws. The clerk was/instructed to prop-are a com-: prehensivo statement of the' account* in connexion with the- electrio system. Mr Stewart roported that £l5O, promised b/ the residents towards the cost of a- bridge over the Heathcoto river, on the Spark's roadFranklcy street extension, had been paid. The clerk reported that a start had been madeiwitli the fencing of the new road leading to tho site of the proposed 'bridge. The* clerk was instructed to writo to the I'aparu'a County Council in reference to the application of a ratepayer of that county for electric current. It was resolved to call tenders for carting IfiO or moro yards of ishingle from the Hoon Hay road pit to Spark's noad. , The application of a. ratepayer to plough and remove soil from the sido of the road waa refused, on the grounds that the same may be needed by the Council for blinding 1 purpos-as. The electrical engineer wrote for a return of revenue*. The clerk reported having supplied the information. ■ _ The Minister in charge gave notice of tho" suspension of building regulations. . •As tho end of tho financial year left the Council with a heavy overdraft, the opinion of councillors was that only works of an urgent nature should be undertaken, and every effort made to conserve tho finances. It waa resolved that 10 per cent..penalty bo added to all overdue rates, and the clerk was given definite instructions to suo for tuo same at (ho expiration of U days. Complaint was reccivM from a. ratepayerregardin? stock wandering on Tankerviue road. It was decided to write, to the offender in the matter.
