COUNTY COUNCILS.

1 ASHBURTON. The monthly meeting of the Ashburton County Council was held yesterday. Present: Councillors C. lleid (chairman), W. Lochhea<*> O. Murdoch, H. C. B. Withell, F. Franipton,A. Mugaon, T. The Minister of Internal Affairs wrote in respect to the merging of the Road Boai'd districts into the county tint action onlv could be taken under section 30 r.f the Counties Act, 1920, if the capital value of all rateable property in all the road districts in any county was less than two-fifths of the capital value oi all rateable property in that county, and was not applicable' in the case of each individual road district.
