Kumagae, the Japanese lawn tenuis player, has received a. cable message from Shiiuidzu stating that the latter will be unable to come to the United States to compote in the Davis Cup cor/tests. Kumagae is keenly disappointed, as he had planned a partnership with Shirnidzu in the ' National Doubles Championship, as well as in the Davis Clip tournament. Kumagae has cabled to too Japanese Lawn Tennis Association urging it to make a strenuous effort to get.Shiinidzu's employers in Calcutta to give him leave. CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. The*Cantcrbury Tennis Association's hard court tournament was continued yesterday. I* the combined handicap doubles Mrs Bridges-Jones and T. W. Patterson, defeated Mrs Wake and A. Borrows A-7, and Miss Dorman and A. Smither defeated Mr*. Bridges-Jones and Patterson 9-8. The winners meet Mies M. Bain and K. Clark in the final. REDCLIFFS CLUB. A tournament held by the Bedcliffs Club resulted in a win for Mrs • Shadbolt and D. Richardson, the runners-up being Miss Sibbald and F. Thompson. Afternoon tea was provided by. the ladies.
