CANTERBURY CENTRE,

A meeting of tlio Canterbury Centre of the X«w Zealand Amateur 'Swimming Association was held lust night. Present—Messrs C. Atkinson (chairman), G. Rich, A.. R. Brurisden, R. B. "Wheeley, L. Annand, A. Hollander, D. Coulter, \Y. Eade, V. Atkinson, L. Haworth, W. Johnston, and G. 11. Rich. The Polo Committee was authorised to, fix the date of t'he match between Chriatchurch and Opawa. ' • The; secretary of the Council wrote in regard to the Dominion tour of Ludy Langer that the" Head Centre would conduct Die carnivals originally allotted to the Canterbury Centre. The Centre's offer of assistance wis appreciated, and would be avaibd of. if necessary. The Council asked that the Centre allocate two local championships to ■the Langer carnivals,, a 50 yards men's championship, and a. 100 yards ladies' championship. The suggestion, was adopted. Tlie Unite, I Amateur Swimming-Club wrote stating that tha club's carnival arranged for the 14th inst. hud been cancelled on account of the vis.it of Ludy Langer. T',e resignation of Mr G. Rich as sole selector of polo teams was received. On being asked to reconsider his decision, Mr Bich said that lie had been interfered v/jtli by a membeiv of th 6 Centre who was not present that evening, in th© selection of a team. Aftor some discussion it "was -decided to go into committee so that Mr Rich, might mention the no nip of the member, and tho circumstances oi the oaf<\ , On resuming in open'meeting it was announced that the matter would 'ou gone into at tho next meeting. An expression of pleasure on th© convalescence of Mr Atkinson was carried unanimously. It was resolved te write to the Surf and Life Saving Associations asking them to cooperate with the Centre in rendering financial assistance'-to'Mr D. Davidson, who-was recently injured at Auckland.
