DEARER FOOTBALL.
ADMISSION CHARGES INCREASED. '."I don't seo how the Union, is to carry on in the coming" season if weonly charge the same rates as last year for admission to Lancaster Park," remarked, the chairman, Mr S.F.Wilson, at the meeting- of the Management Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union 'last night. Ho said that nobody would regret it more than he to see the admission price to club matches increased, but in view of the heavy. expenditure which would bo incurred in the coming season, he realised that such a step was absolutely necessary. Mr Kestcven, who moved that the charge bo Is 6d inside, and fld on the embankment, 'said that admission _to football matches was the only thing which had not been increased in the last 30 years. Mr W. Boattie, however, considered that the charges should be the same as formerly, using as au argument the point that it was the Union's, function to foster and keep alive interest in Another member complained of the inadequate stand accommodation at Lancaster Park. The chairman pointed out that although the Park Board of Control claimed 25 per cent, of the gaio takings, .it would bo absolutely necessary for that body, in order to keep the ground in proper repair, to obtain more revenue. ' Mr McPhail put in. a plea for free admission, or concessions being allowed to ladies, and.he pointed out that the presence of the gentler sex at the matches tended to have, a good influence on the general conduct. Mr Kestcven: The ladie3 are nearly all earning money now, and. why should boys who are earning less than them have- to pay, while the girls go free? It is simply ridiculous. An amendment by Mr Beattie, that the admission charges remain as before (Is and 6d), was lost, and it was resolved that the admission charges to Lancaster Park for club matches bo Is CyJ for tho enclosure, and 9d for the embankment.
