RIFLE SHOOTING.

CANTERBURY MILITARY DISTRICT. SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP. The firing for the "B Series" ras continued at the Redcliffs range yesterday. Lieut .-Col. F. B. Creswell directed tho proceedings, with Major D. Smith, Captain Reid, and Lieut. Coe ae range officers. The secretary was Lieut. R, J. D. Davis (N.Z.S.C), while the official returns were in charge of Lieutenant Foster (N.Z.S.C). The weather was altogether favourable to the competitors, being dry, and overhead conditions warm and eunny except for the last hour. The teams matches resulted in a spirited exhibition of ehooting, the Kaiapcd me i putting up a distinctly good performance. The shooting for the belt resulted in an extraordinary tie between Rifleman Reynoldsj. of Christ-church, and Rifleman Humphreys, of Rangiora. The shoot off was keenly followed and the win of the northerner was asi popular as it waa well deserved. At the conclusion of the firing Colonel Young apologised for the absence of the Minister of Defence, Sir Heaton Rhodes, and thanked Lieut.-Colonel B, B. Creswell, his range officers, the markers, and the secretarial officers for their work. He said the ehooting had been of a high order, and he congratulated Rifleman Humphreys upon his well-deserved victory. He then presented the prizes won during the meeting.
