WOOLSTON FIRE BOARD.

*"3 MR HOLLAND REPLIES. Mr H. Holland, a member of the Christchurch. Fire Board, made a reply at the meeting of the Board last nigfot to a request from the Woolston Board, asking him if he would explain whether he had been misreported in the matter of the offer mad 6 by the Christchurch Board for the protection of Woolston, or whether ho had made his statement in error.

Mi* Holland said ho was correctly reported, and • had not made the statement in error. He < read extracts from the superintendent's report recommending Woolston to provide an up-to-date alarm system, witih underground tanks and other precautions, and if that were done he recommended tho_ Christehurcli Board (a) to enter into an agreement with Woolston to assume control of their station, men, _ plant, and equipment, to work same in conjunction with, the City Brigade; (b that t'he superintendent he given complete jurisdiction on behalf of both Boards to rearrange staffs and plant as in his opinion may be considered necessary to secure fire protection for both Christchurch and Woolston without prejudicing Ohristchurch; (c) that the Woolston Fire Board pay an subsidy for the attendance of one motorpump in the Woolston fire district, providing 9ame was not required for a large outbreak in the city, the total payment to be £162 per annum. Mr Holland added he thought that answered the letter from Woolston. The chairman (Mr H. P. Hopkins) said there -was a second proposal, under which the Woolston people would provide their own brigade and plant, and they were now confusing the two proposals. Mr Holland said he did not think any good purpose would be served by discussing the matter again. Tho resolution, although, proposed by himself, was adopted unanimously by the Board and became the act of the Board. As he had previously stated, he had nothing to withdraw, and the report of the superintendent bore that out.
